The Hunter #2 - Out of the Darkness by anniecanjump The Hunter #2 - Out of the Darkness by anniecanjump
This is entered in a poll here on DA. I would appreciate your vote. [link]

11x14 size, done on 110 lb. paper with Prsmacolor colored pencils.

This is Dua, a young male sumatran tiger. My second painting of him. He is such a beautiful and majestic fellow.

Thanks to Woxy for the great reference photo. [link]

Wow, amazing painting, love this one a lot too!  I could fave all of your work. I hope you don't mind a question.  What do you do about using someone's photo for a painting?  Do you have to pay for the right to use it so you can sell your work?  I'm just wondering where artist's get good reference photos to use for their paintings.

Thanks for the nice compliment.  Whenever I find a reference photo I want to use, I always ask the photographer for permission to use it.  Some will give you permission and some have several restrictions. However most are truly wonderful and willing to share their work with you.  They just ask for credit for the photo reference.  There are lots of sites to look into finding photo references.  Here on Deviantart, Wetcanvas, Flickr, Moruge File to mention a few.  A lot of artist use their own reference photos.  Good luck and have a great day.

When I saw this I wasn't sure whether it was a photo or a lovely drawing by you. I looked closer and saw your name signed at the bottom. What? This is a drawing? Your talent is one rare thing not many people have. I love your work! Keep drawing :D

How very nice of you to say. That is the best compliment for me, when someone thinks my work is a photo.  It is a busy time of year right now so unfortunately I do not get the time to work on my art as I would like.  But there will be more coming, especially in the winter months.

do u impress the whiskers or do negative drawing?

Hi there. I actually use white acrylic paint for whiskers. I gently scrap away the wax first then carefully paint the whiskers. Because I use such heavy layers of pencil, nothing else seems to work but this. Thanks for asking.

Thanks a lot. I wish I could tell you but I never keep track of how long it takes to do a piece. This is a larger piece so I would guess a couple weeks. Not steady of course.

Why don't cats shave?

Because 9 out 10 cats prefer whiskas { ad slogan for cat food }.
